Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital in Dallas, Texas awarded Stanley Consultants and design-build partner McCarthy Building Companies, the design and construction of a new combined heat and power (CHP) energy center. The project is being built in accordance with the Veterans Administration's Strategic Sustainability Performance Plan, which will reduce the hospital's energy requirements and comply with the Federal Government's Executive Order 13514.

Stanley Consultants is designing a 4.5 megawatt gas turbine with a heat recovery steam generator as a combined heat and power (CHP) energy center to support the VA's 540-bed hospital campus. The unit will deliver up to 45,000 pounds of saturated steam every hour. It will provide the hospital with a more efficient and consistently climate controlled environment while reducing carbon emissions and lowering utilities and maintenance costs.
