Red Mountain Milestone – Loop 202 Completion

Stanley Consultants provided final design for the last 5-mile segment that completes Red Mountain Freeway Loop 202 in Phoenix, AZ. The effort included development of multiple construction packages for advertisement and construction, and full team support of post design services during construction. This $195 million segment is one of ADOT's largest single projects.  What is typically a two-year design effort was completed in nine months.

A unique straddle substructure using a combination of site-precast post-tensioned concrete and common precast/pre-stressed concrete girders made it possible to economically bridge an arterial roadway and the Central Arizona Project (CAP) canal at a difficult angle.  Featured in Civil Engineering magazine, the bridge is the first of its kind in Arizona.

Completion of the 4.8 mile segment between Power Road and University Drive represents a significant milestone for Valley transportation. Said to be the largest single project ever managed by DOT, the $195 million project included an 8-span and 9-span pair of 1000-foot mainline structures, 10 bridge crossings of the CAP Canal, three crossroad overpass structures, six major equipment underpasses, four interchanges, four modern roundabouts, a 200 million gallon per day pump station, and extensive utility relocations.
