2008 Flood Resource Center

Environmental Guide for Flood Recovery 2008

The floods of 2008 have affected nearly everyone in Iowa. More than 80 of the state's 99 counties have been declared disaster areas.  Stanley Consultants has a long history in Iowa, with offices in Des Moines, Muscatine and Iowa City. Virtually all of our Iowa employees and clients have been affected by the flooding. As engineers, we use our professional knowledge and skills for the betterment of human welfare. The needless destruction caused by the floodwaters goes against all that our profession stands for. Now we're all working together toward a common goal of repairing the damage and protecting our communities from future threats.

Stanley Consultants has extensive experience and expertise in flood control and protection. We assisted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repair the flood protection system in New Orleans following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Grand Forks, North Dakota, is now a model city for flood protection because in 1993 the unprecedented flooding laid waste to much of the city. Determined never to see a repeat, the City of Grand Forks worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Stanley Consultants to design and construct a system now being emulated by other cities.

Stanley Consultants is a multi-disciplined consulting engineering firm based in Muscatine. If you haven’t already been contacted by us and would like an initial consultation with a recovery team at no obligation, please contact Darla Sterner at 563.264.6400 or e-mail sternerdarla@stanleygroup.com.
