Stanley Engineers Tour University of Iowa’s National Advanced Driving Simulator

Advancements in automated driving and safety were the hot topics during a tour of the University of Iowa’s National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS).  Dr. Dan McGehee, facility director, gave Stanley Consultants’ transportation engineers a close up look at the cars in its automated vehicle testing program and its world-renown simulator.

 

Transportation Innovation Strategies Leader Sandra Larson coordinated the tour with Dr. Dan McGehee, professor and director of the University of Iowa’s National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS), the nation’s premier driving simulation research and development facility.
This Tesla is one of several cars used to test different elements of the automated vehicle driving experience.
The Iowa City area is one of 10 designated automated vehicle proving grounds to encourage testing of new technologies.
