CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The LaSalle Drive project in Chicago earned a Merit Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Illinois in the Energy Category.
Located between Chicago’s Clark Street and North Lake Shore Drive, this project provided construction services for intersection realignment, traffic signal modernization, deck replacement and addition of skylights at two pedestrian underpasses, ornamental lighting, and a landscaped median along LaSalle Drive.
The primary goal was to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety by reconfiguring the intersection of LaSalle Drive, Local Lake Shore Drive and southbound Lake Shore Drive exit ramps.
The reconfiguration reduced the overall size of the intersection, reduced the number of crosswalks from four to two and increased the amount of green space within Lincoln Park.
