Knott and Pacini win Scientist of the Year Awards

Muscatine, Iowa  – Mike Knott and Lain Pacini, both senior environmental scientists with Stanley Consultants, were recently honored by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council (QCESC) at its 52nd annual conference.  Knott was named the 2014 Senior Scientist of the Year and Pacini was named the 2014 Junior Scientist of the Year.  The QCESC promotes engineering and science to area youth through scholarship and engineering competition programs.

KnottMike Stanley StoriesRecently retired from full-time work, Michael Knott was the Chief of Environmental Services with Stanley Consultants in Muscatine.  With 44 years of professional experience, he now works on a part-time basis for Stanley Consultants using his engineering and biological science skills to develop applications for permits for large river-related industrial and commercial developments.   Throughout his career Knott worked on a wide variety of projects, including seining salmon in Alaska, designing turtle barriers for highways in Minnesota, wading swamps in Alabama, flying transmission line routes looking for alternative locations, performing mussel surveys in a dozen states, mist-netting bats, and conducting surveys for endangered and threatened mussels, bats, crayfish, salamanders, turtles, fish, snakes, birds, beetles, small mammals and plants in approximately 20 states.

PaciniLain7691_pro.jpgPacini is a Senior Environmental Engineer with Stanley Consultants in Coralville, Iowa with specific expertise in air quality management.  He has served as Stanley Consultants’ lead air dispersion modeler over the past seven years and has led efforts in solving complex air quality compliance and permitting issues for major industrial, institutional and utility clients.  His work with utilities includes air pollution control technology retrofits at several coal fired power plants resulting in significant air emissions reductions.
