SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – New staff in Stanley Consultants’ office has expanded the depth and scope of the firm’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). Tristan Nelson, GISP, and Lindsy Bentley, GISP, have joined the firm as GIS Analysts. (A GISP is a Certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Professional who has met the minimum standards for educational achievement, professional experience, and the manner in which he or she contributes back to the profession, and practices in an ethical manner. GISP is offered through the GIS Certification Institute.) Stanley Consultants is a well-known consulting engineering firm with offices around the world. The firm’s Salt Lake City office has provided planning, design, and construction management services to local clients for nearly 20 years.
With a degree in geography from Utah State University, Bentley has the rare ability to take abstract concepts and turn them in to solid data using GIS. In addition to eight years of GIS experience with local, county, state, and federal governments, she has taught GIS to students at the college level. She specializes in research, analysis and problem solving using GIS. Her expertise relates to project mapping, network analysis, emergency management and emergency response systems.
Nelson has seven years of experience specializing in the administration of all aspects of enterprise GIS. Prior to joining Stanley Consultants, he worked for local governments as a GIS professional in Utah, Colorado, and Arizona.
He has experience building maps and applications on multiple devices and platforms and has created and maintained navigation GIS datasets for over 50 countries. Nelson has a degree in geography with an emphasis in GIS from Brigham Young University.
The two join Stanley Consultants’ staff of GIS professionals managed by Dr. Ahmad Salah, GISP, PE, CFM. With nearly 20 years of GIS experience Salah is a well-known expert in the field. He has won multiple GIS awards and is a frequent speaker and author on multiple aspects of the GIS field.
Recent sample projects completed by GIS staff include storm water master planning for Park City, Utah and Texas A&M University, as well as geo-database tools for Utah-based Canal Company, custom GIS field applications and Saline Soil Modeling for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations.
