Thomopulos Appointed to State Department Panel
MUSCATINE, Iowa - Gregs G. Thomopulos, P.E, President and CEO of Stanley Consultants, has been appointed a member of the U.S. State Department’s Industrial Advisory Panel (IAP). Stanley Consultants provides engineering, environmental, and construction services worldwide and operates from 15 offices in the United States and 12 offices overseas.
As a member of the IAP, Thomopulos will serve the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) in an advisory capacity with respect to industry and academia’s latest concepts, methods, best practices, innovations and ideas related to property management. The OBO directs the worldwide overseas buildings program for the State Department. In conjunction with other governmental agencies, OBO sets worldwide priority for the design, construction, acquisition, maintenance, use, and sale of real properties and the use of sales proceeds.
Members of the IAP typically have extensive knowledge and expertise in the areas of research and development, design, construction, the environment, seismic issues, emergency operations, security, planning and development, and banking and finance.
With over 40 years of experience in the engineering and construction industry, Thomopulos is well suited for the appointment. He is a licensed professional engineer in 14 states and Puerto Rico, and is a Fellow of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
He has served on the Advisory Boards of the University of Iowa College of Engineering; the Iowa Institute of Hydraulics Research; the University of Kansas School of Engineering; and the International Center for Water Resources at Central State University, a historically black college in Ohio.
Thomopulos has served on numerous community and professional committees including the Board of Goodwill Industries of Eastern Iowa and the Committee of Fellows of ACEC. Currently he is a Chair of the International Committee of ACEC, a member of the Executive Committee of FIDIC, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, and a member of the Senior Executive Group of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). He is a member of the Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield Board of Directors, 1999 to present.
