AARP Honors Stanley Consultants as One of Nation’s Best Employers for Workers Over 50
MUSCATINE, Iowa - For the second time, Stanley Consultants, Inc., has been recognized by AARP as an excellent employer for mature workers. The company was one of 35 companies from across the United States to be named 2004 "AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50." AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to making life better for people age 50 and older.
The 2004 awards come as recent projections point toward a continued jump in the percentage of mature workers in the economy. Fourteen percent of the workforce is aged 55 and older now; the percent is expected to reach 19 percent by 2012.
"The winning employers stand as exemplary models for others who have yet to plan for the graying of their workforce," said Deborah Russell, who directs the Best Employers program for AARP. "The creative practices today’s winners have in place may well evolve in the future, but the 2004 Best Employers give us high standards to strive for."
Stanley Consultants is a worldwide provider of engineering, environmental and construction services. AARP noted Stanley Consultants for promoting and rewarding employee loyalty by issuing Career Service Awards to those people whose age and years of service total 85. Since the program began, 124 awards have been issued. The company also encourages employees to broaden their work experience with temporary assignments in other locations, and offers phase-in retirement and flexible and compressed work schedules.
Employees stay with the company for an average of nine years, twice as long as the national average for the industry. Thirty-one percent of the company’s workforce is over the age of 50.
