Providing Reservoir Storage for Restoration of the Florida Everglades

Stanley Consultants designed the C-43 Basin West Storage Reservoir to provide storage for the Caloosahatchee River basin in support of the South Florida Water Management District’s participation in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

The C-43 Basin West Storage Reservoir is part of a project to provide reservoir storage for the entire Caloosahatchee River basin as part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).  The purpose of the project as defined in the CERP was to capture C-43 Basin high flows due to runoff and releases from Lake Okeechobee.

Stanley Consultants provided alternative evaluations, test cell design, monitoring and analysis, final design, bidding and construction services.  The goal of the West Storage Reservoir was to provide 170,000 acre-feet of storage.

Our team was also responsible for implementing the South Florida Water Management District standard design drawings in preparation for design of seven gated structures, two emergency overflow structures, two reservoir discharge structures, and one 1,500 cfs pump station for a 160,000-acre-foot dual cell storage reservoir system.

On a design review for the C-43 project, the District Project Manager said of Stanley Consultants: "Well qualified staff, very flexible in modifying to meet SFWMD Goals."
