Key Takeaways
Flooding Impacts All Regions
The threat of increased flooding requires a multi-billion dollar investment throughout the region.
Investment Decisions are Required
Multiple climate threats require policy makers to determine where appropriate adaptations should be made.
Regional Differences Are Important
Climate impacts are not equal across Sub-Saharan Africa. Each region requires separate analysis as appropriate.
Impacts of Environmental Shifts on African Countries
Developing economies in Africa are hindered by climate challenges, as increasing damage forces limited funds to be diverted from new construction to repairs. The multi-sector analysis was conducted to identify mitigation policies that could minimize climate-related damage and reduce the funds needed to address its impacts.
Resilient Analytics was a consultant to the larger effort focusing on the physical impacts of climate change, including both determining the potential increase in infrastructure degradation, as well as the cost impact of replacing infrastructure on a more frequent basis. The team worked collaboratively with the project economists and United Nations researchers to integrate the findings into the overall results.
Resilient Analytics introduced a focus on assessing infrastructure through climate shocks that were used as input to integrated assessment models by the economists on the team. Through collaboration, Resilient Analytics refined existing models to determine the potential damage and degradation rates that could occur to transportation networks throughout the countries of interest.
Solutions
Proactively assessing, planning for and adapting to major weather events and rising temperatures is essential for long-term sustainability. Stanley Consultants is leveraging Resilient Analytics to deliver data-driven solutions that prioritize human safety, safeguard communities and protect capital investments.
