Eastern Provinces Facing Severe Threats
The areas of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are projected to experience the greatest impacts in the near term.
Analyzing Climate Impacts on Postal Delivery
Climate change is having a significant impact on postal delivery. Extreme heat impacts postal carriers as they require longer and more frequent breaks during extreme heat events. Extreme precipitation events are causing delays as road conditions worsen due to standing water. These impacts are previewing longer-term impacts which need to be strategically planned to reduce postal delivery impact.
Resilient Analytics served as the physical risk consultant for this project, analyzing potential climate impacts across the primary postal areas in Canada. The team was also tasked with assessing how increases in these climate events could affect worker health throughout the system. These analyses were to be conducted on a representative portfolio across the nation.
Resilient Analytics analyzed heat and precipitation events at a representative site level to determine where risks were likely to increase. The team worked with the client to develop specific risk thresholds to set levels of risk and worker safety for each location. The team utilized the client inputs to develop risk and safety profiles for each site with multiple timelines and multiple climate scenarios.
