The Superstition Mountains Recharge Project has received a National Recognition Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies and an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona.
The Central Arizona Project contracted with Stanley Consultants to design additional groundwater recharge capacity to serve the future water needs of Pima, Pinal, and Maricipa County residents in Arizona.
To pull the water from the canal into underground aquifers, Stanley Consultants designed a one-of-a-kind bridge-mounted pumping station that spans the canal. Six vertical turbine pumps mounted on the bridge deck draw water directly from the canal like giant straws. This is a dramatic departure from the traditional “canal side pump turnout” that CAP typically uses to convey water to the recharge basins.
