About the Project
Enhancing resilience in the face of changing conditions in Vietnam
Vietnam is experiencing climate challenges throughout the country, but particularly along the Mekong River and in coastal sectors. Increased floods and coastal inundation are impacting future development of key agricultural areas. The climate analysis was undertaken to understand the potential rate at which further impacts would occur in this sector and the larger economic effects.
Resilient Analytics was a consultant to the larger effort focusing on the physical impacts of climate change with a specific emphasis on transportation systems. The team focused on coastal areas to determine which areas may be inundated due to increasing river flows. The team worked collaboratively with local experts to model the impacts on agriculture and national transportation networks.
Resilient Analytics created adaptation models for the Vietnam project. The models allowed Resilient Analytics to provide input to the economic modelers regarding the potential reduction in the transportation infrastructure and the subsequent potential for economic impact. The introduction of the models allowed the United Nations to determine appropriate response actions as part of long-term planning.
