Extreme Events Disrupt International Clothing Companies' Operations

Climate change is having a significant impact on international clothing companies. Extreme events are causing business interruptions due to power interruptions, supply chain challenges and distribution issues. Additionally, working conditions are getting more challenging in areas experiencing a greater number of extreme temperature events.

Resilient Analytics was the physical risk consultant for this assessment, with the responsibility to analyze potential impacts to the global supply and distribution network. Of particular interest were centers in Asia and Europe where key components and distribution hubs are located. Potential financial impacts were required for financial reporting.

Resilient Analytics analyzed extreme events at all global locations provided by the client. The team worked with the client to develop specific risk thresholds to set levels of risk and cost for each location. The team looked closely at storm projections, temperature projections and transportation impacts in all geographic locations to determine potential interruption increases and length.
