Expanded Readiness Center Supports Growth
The Iowa Army National Guard was in need of a new Readiness Center. The existing armory had surpassed its life expectancy and, with the growth of the units assigned, did not have the space to accommodate the needed capacity.
Stanley Consultants was retained to design the new facility. At 90,000 square feet the Readiness Center provides ample space for the assigned military units to perform necessary tasks. It includes offices, Iowa Communications Network (ICN) and training classrooms, weapons storage and vaults, a drill hall with full service kitchen, latrines and locker rooms, physical fitness area, unit supply rooms, indoor vehicle storage area and a vehicle wash area.
In addition, Stanley Consultants provided construction administration services during the construction. Services included resident inspection and construction observation services to verify that the work performed was done in accordance with the approved contract documents.
Additional services performed by Stanley Consultants' members, or by subcontract, included material verifications, special inspections, and testing per "Statement of Special Inspections and Tests" as required by the 2003 International Building Code (IBC). The Owner was provided copies of all tests and inspection reports.
