Des Moines Office "Rocks the Block"
Our Des Moines Office kicked off its volunteer efforts with "Rock the Block," an event organized by the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. Rock the Block focuses group efforts on critical home repair, home weatherization, and home preservation. This work included fixing any code or safety violations, providing modifications to accommodate disabilities, installation of weather stripping and energy efficient fixtures, improving mechanical systems, repairing siding and paving, landscaping, and painting.
According to Sabrina Krichel, our Des Moines Office Community Service Champion, "the primary focus of our group was putting siding on a house. We had fun! And we got a lot done on the house. Our guys really know what they're doing!"
The families living in these homes received much needed and appreciated help, and volunteers had a great day. "It was really great to be involved with Habitat for Humanity," Jeremy Reinier said. "I could tell the homeowners really appreciated our efforts as they worked beside us. I enjoyed spending time with my coworkers, whom I also consider friends."
Jeff Hillegonds added that, "there was a lot of cutting and hammering and finger smashing.
