Engineers Without Borders Softball Tournament
In April, several Phoenix members, their families and friends, joined together to play at the first ever Engineers Without Borders (EWB) softball tournament. Played to benefit the Carlos Pinto Water Supply Project in the Dominican Republic, players contributed their softball skills as well as $300 to the project.
Carlos Pinto, population 1,300, and EWB are working on a five-year plan to improve the quality and quantity of the existing drinking water system. Sonia Berriz, one of the Phoenix Community Service Champions, said that "In the softball tournament for EWB, I had so much fun cheering for my teammates, and we ended up winning one of our games. That was a great memory! These activities have made coming to work more enjoyable as I have new and different connections with the people I have donated my time with."
