Modern Woodmen Park Flood Protection Wins National Award

April 23, 2013

The American Council of Engineering Companies has awarded a National Recognition Award for the Modern Woodmen Park flood protection project in the 2013 Engineering Excellence Awards competition.

The project, located in Davenport, Iowa, has also received a Grand Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Iowa.

The project includes an innovative removable floodwall that protects the baseball stadium to a 250-year flood.  Combined with new permanent approach by placing a removable bridge that provides pedestrian access across the floodwater to the stadium, the project simultaneously protects the stadium from flooding and keeps the ball in play.

One of the three longest installations of its type in North America, the entire wall can be installed by six people in less than one-day.
