Thomopulos Receives Prestigious OPAL Award

Gregs Thomopulos, Chairman & CEO of Stanley Consultants, Inc., received the 2011 Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for lifetime achievement in management.

Thomopulos began his career with Stanley Consultants as an intern in 1965, and rose through the ranks to become chairman and chief executive officer. He became president in 1987, and during his tenure, the company grew from 236 employees to 1,700. Net revenue grew from $11.5 million to $184 million, a compounded average annual rate of 15 percent over a period of 20 years.

Throughout his career, Thomopulos has received numerous honors and awards, including the University of Kansas School of Engineering's Distinguished Engineering Service Award; the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa; and the Distinguished Service Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). He has a master's degree in structural engineering and structural mechanics from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree in 2010 by the University of Iowa.
