ADOT SR-88 Study

Arizona is experiencing increased wildfire and flood risks due to extreme climate events. State Route 88 (SR-88) is a key recreation access route into the state's public lands. After several washouts due to extreme precipitation events over a wildfire burn area, the state wanted to explore resilient redesign options for SR-88. A component of that resilience is understanding key threats to the road and the potential for these threats to occur.

Resilient Analytics served as climate consultant, supporting Stanley Consultants on the Design Concept Report to assess the feasibility of reopening the closed section of SR-88. As the climate consultant, Resilient Analytics helped determine the physical risk due to changes in wildfire and extreme precipitation events and the compounding impact. The team was tasked with delivering risk evaluations for the road, as well as providing potential changes in design criteria to the Stanley Consultants design team.

Resilient Analytics utilized its multi-disciplinary team and core internal technology to analyze the potential for severe damage over the next 20 years. The team focused on an in-depth analysis of the route and its resilience to potential rockslides, wildfire and flood from the surrounding area. The findings were delivered in a report outlining risk levels and recommended design conditions for consideration by the design team.
