Welsh Social Housing Climate Analysis

Climate shifts are significantly impacting housing in areas where temperatures now exceed comfort levels. Installing air conditioning may be unfeasible due to historic designations or insufficient energy generation capacity. Understanding which historic structures and building styles are susceptible to rising temperatures is crucial for effective policy development.

Resilient Analytics was the lead consultant for this effort, responsible for analyzing potential temperature risks across various building types and Welsh counties. Additionally, Resilient Analytics was tasked with estimating the cost of retrofitting structures at the greatest risk of not meeting required comfort levels.

Resilient Analytics developed indoor comfort relationships with exterior temperature projections to determine potential risk thresholds for each historic era of housing development. Additionally, the team established specific relationships for each type of building material typically found in the Welsh housing stock. These relationships were applied across the country using a GIS-based platform.
