Arizona Department of Transportation
Phoenix, AZ
Engineering & Design
For years, travelers driving through Arizona suffered delays and congestion on Interstate 10 through the Phoenix metropolitan area. The solution was to extend Loop 202 corridor westerly for 22.5 miles to connect at the I-10 in Chandler with I-10 in west Phoenix. The $1.7 billion project is the largest single construction project in Arizona Department of Transportation’s history, and the state’s first transportation related public private partnership (P3) project. Stanley Consultants designed the 7-mile-long Salt River segment of the project. It features two half-mile-long bridges over the Salt River, which utilize the longest precast prestressed concrete girders used in state history. In total, the firm’s design responsibility included 17 bridges containing 459 prestressed concrete girders, a multi-use trail and pedestrian bridge, analysis and design of drainage channels, detention basins and freeway drainage systems, right-of-way acquisition support and lighting designs.
