About the Project

Sreamlined deck repairs kept freight moving on a high-volume corridor

Stanley Consultants provided full construction engineering management for critical bridge deck preservation along I-84, a freight-heavy corridor winding through Weber Canyon. The project involved pothole patching and surface treatments on 19 bridge decks, all under active traffic with limited sight distances and rugged terrain.

Stanley's construction management team coordinated with UDOT to maintain communication with the Port of Entry for freight movement while supporting the safe passage of all traffic through the work zone. Traffic patterns were adjusted to enhance safety, with extended setups around blind curves and sloped terrain to give drivers additional time to respond to lane closures.

Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) were used to map pothole repairs quickly and accurately. This innovative approach captured precise data in minutes, streamlining documentation and improving the accuracy of repair quantities compared to traditional survey methods.

The project supported the long-term performance of a key transportation route while maintaining critical freight access through a challenging canyon corridor.
