Designing the Yazoo Pump Station
Stanley Consultants was chosen to provide design engineering for the Yazoo River Backwater Pumping Plant located near the mouth of the Yazoo River in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
The pump station consist of 2 service bays, 12 pump bays, and a control room bay, along with esplanades and ancillary items.
Stanley Consultants designed and detailed the service bay substructure, superstructure, and esplanade, and the pump bay superstructure; all architectural finishes and designed and detailed a hydronic heating system, with enough excess capacity to heat the control room bay.
The entire pumping plant and surrounding site were modeled in 3D. At various stages in the model development, plans and sections are extracted into 2D drawings automatically. Extra attention to accuracy in the model is given and paid off in the quality and completeness of the extracted drawings. By properly building the components in the 3D model, much of the coordination and drawing finishing effort was reduced or eliminated.
The 3D model development was a collaborative effort involving frequent transfer of files between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Vicksburg District, the USACE, St. Louis District and Stanley Consultants.
