About the Project
Utility plan delivered during ongoing runway operations
The $1.5 billion Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal expansion utility master plan is an example of complex master planning and construction supervision. The services were delivered during uninterrupted international airport operations. The utility design encompassed a development the size of a city with a population of 40,000, as well as two immense district cooling plants and associated distribution lines located between two active runways.
One significant challenge Stanley Consultants addressed was how to install massive underground utility lines beneath active taxiways by open-cut trenching without interfering with aircraft movements. Stanley Consultants provided innovative site engineering solutions in the design and construction of a series of sanitary and sewer micro-tunnels, as well as using existing under-taxiway tunnel systems to creatively solve the problem.
