About the Project

Providing Reliable and Efficient Power to Eastern Colorado

Kindle Energy is leading the effort to bolster the reliability and efficiency of eastern Colorado’s power supply. As Engineer of Record, we provided project management, detailed design and procurement support during construction, startup and commissioning.

The Mountain Peak Power project adds 162 MW of peaking natural gas capacity through six General Electric LM2500XPRESS combustion turbine generators. The LM2500XPRESS units offer quick and reliable power during peak demands with reduced emissions and connect to a 69 kV transmission system at the site’s Tesla substation. The Tesla substation includes a battery energy storage system that supports the 69 kV transmission system.

Each combustion turbine generator is equipped with an exhaust stack and a selective catalytic reduction system, which plays a crucial role in reducing nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions. The generators leverage an inlet heating system to recover and reuse heat from exhaust to allow for operation in extreme cold conditions.
