Cost analysis for adapting Canada's infrastructure

Analyzing the diverse conditions across Canada is essential for fully understanding the costs of adapting infrastructure to environmental changes. In Canada, this diversity includes coastal, mountain, extreme cold and urban locations. These varied conditions create a significant potential expense to address the climate impacts projected to affect each part of the country.

Resilient Analytics was the transportation infrastructure consultant in this effort, tasked with developing the adaptation costs for roads, rail and bridges across the country. Resilient Analytics was brought into this specific role based on their experience in performing such analyses, including large portfolio evaluations, experience with infrastructure engineering and a transparent approach to the solution.

Resilient Analytics leveraged its existing functions to address the diverse scenarios in Canada. The effort included the introduction of new cold weather impact functions to analyze the Yukon and the Northwest Territories. The team developed cost results for both reactive and proactive policy approaches to provide return-on-investment analyses for each Canadian province.
