Stanley’s use of UAS technology on a Utah roadway project made it possible to quickly and accurately map out and calculate a volume of stockpiled material. The quantity of the stockpiled material had been in dispute between the owner and contractor, but the situation was resolved faster, cheaper and more accurately by utilizing UAS instead of a traditional survey.

In response to frequent rockfall along SR-158 that threatened motorists, Stanley used UAS technology to map out the 3D surface of a rock wall. This 3D surface allowed our design team to safely capture the rock surface and provide a more accurate design of the rockfall mitigating mesh system.

On the I-84 Bridge Rehabilitation project, Stanley was able to use UAS technology to quickly and accurately map out pothole repairs on the existing bridge structures. The traditional method entails breaking each pothole up into standard shapes and then measuring the holes by hand, but by utilizing UAS the Stanley team was able to fly each structure in five minutes, process the images in the background while performing other inspection tasks and then map out the potholes using ArcGIS. While each bridge would have typically taken one to two days to capture pothole quantities by hand, this approach delivered more accurate quantities in just 40 minutes per bridge, from flight to final report.

One of the most promising recent developments is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with drone analytics. AI-powered predictive maintenance will enable early detection of equipment failures, reducing downtime and preventing costly repairs.
