About the Project
Austin SHINES project serves as model for distributed energy, battery storage
The Austin Sustainable and Holistic Integration of Energy Storage and Solar Photovoltaics (SHINES) project aims to be a model for optimizing the value of solar and storage in utility grid, residential and commercial applications.
The project uses sophisticated grid controls to tie together 4 MW of solar energy, 4 MW of utility storage and multiple energy storage systems at commercial and residential properties. Stanley Consultants served Austin Energy as owner’s engineer, responsible for various levels of coordination, and performed some design work for the $10.6 million, 39-month project. The assets were installed in an Austin Energy substation, the former airport redevelopment in the Mueller area of Austin and in several community commercial building sites and are operating as designed.
