Golden Gate Parkway is County’s First Single Point Interchange
Stanley Consultants’ services were retained by Collier County, Florida to provide design for the upgrade of the Golden Gate Parkway from a four-lane roadway to a six-lane urban divided roadway.
The Golden Gate Parkway is Collier County, Florida's first Single Point Urban Interchange and the county's first grade separated overpass not on a freeway.
Located in an affluent neighborhood, the overpass was strongly opposed by the public fearing it would be a monstrosity. However, an extensive public information campaign supplemented with an interactive 3D presentation transformed condemnation into consent. An animated 3D show allowed the public to visualize (prior to construction) how the bridge would complement and benefit the neighborhood.
The signature structure has been coined "The Gateway to Naples." It's the first impression visitors have of the area and it makes a positive impact on surrounding properties. Views from any angle reveal an aesthetically pleasing structure. The bridge's walls incorporate decorative element, colors and textures with attractive lighting. This is a stark contrast to the utilitarian structures in the county.
