$1.5 Million Multimodal Plaza Serves Over 500 Daily

The plaza and its distinctive performance canopy is a key component of this renewal project designed as a centerpiece for the downtown area of West Valley City, Utah.

The plaza will see over 500 commuters per day that will be using the adjacent bus station and light rail stop. The $1.5 million multimodal plaza includes a performance canopy and stage with water feature to be used for public events including a farmers market. Additional plaza amenities include bench and turf seating areas and distinctive plaza landscape. Detailed attention was given to night lighting of both the canopy and the overall plaza.

Stanley Consultants provided urban design services including plaza and canopy design and overall project management, as well as civil engineering on both the plaza and adjacent promenade. The team worked with Barbara Grygutis, a renowned Tucson artist, on the performance canopy. This significant transit oriented redevelopment project includes connectivity to downtown Salt Lake City via the bus and rail lines as well as adjacent retail, commercial and residential districts and reflects the character, values, and history of the City.
