Waverly Dam Reconstruction

The completion of Waverly's new inflatable rubber dam marks the end of an era plagued by flooding. Since the '30s, rising waters have topped the banks of the Cedar River and poured into the city of Waverly ten times.

The inflatable dam concept allows Waverly to protect upwards of 500 homes and businesses from a I 00-year flood. The new gated spillway also preserves hydroelectric generation at the oldest operating facility in Iowa, and enhances recreational opportunities on the river by further raising the upstream pool elevation.
