Gregs G. Thomopulos, P.E., FASCE, FACEC

PHOTO-MEDIA-CENTER-LEADERSHIP-Gregs-Thomopulos.jpgMr. Thomopulos is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Stanley Consultants.   He joined Stanley Consultants in 1965 as an Engineering Intern and was assigned overseas in 1968, spending 10 years on various assignments.  He was elected Vice President and Head, International Division, in 1978 and was responsible for all of the firm's operations outside the United States, an assignment that took him to over 35 countries – primarily in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean – overseeing the design and construction of infrastructure, energy, and environmental projects.  He was elected President of the firm in 1987 and became CEO in 1998.  He was elected Chairman in 2007.


Mr. Thomopulos received a B.S. degree (with highest distinction) in Civil Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1965 and an M.S. degree in Structural Engineering and Structural Mechanics from the University of California, Berkeley in 1966.  He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Iowa in 2010. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in 14 States and Puerto Rico.

Professional Affiliations

Mr. Thomopulos is a Fellow of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); and a member of the Iowa Engineering Society and the National Society of Professional Engineers.  He has served on the Advisory Boards of the University of Iowa College of Engineering; The Iowa Institute of Hydraulics Research; the University of Kansas School of Engineering; and the International Center for Water Resources at Central State University, a historically black college in Ohio.  He was a member of the 2006-07 U.S. Department of State Overseas Building Operations Industry Advisory Panel.  He currently serves as a member of the University of Iowa Foundation Board, the University of Kansas Endowment Association and the President's Council of Olin College of Engineering.

Mr. Thomopulos has served on numerous community and professional committees including the Board of Goodwill Industries of Southeast Iowa, the Committee of Fellows of ACEC, and the Senior Executive Group of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME).  He was a Senior Vice Chair of ACEC and member of the Executive Committee, a member and Past Chair of the International Committee of ACEC.  Currently, he is the ACEC Chair-Elect and will serve as Chairman in 2013.  Mr. Thomopulos is a member of ASCE's Task Committee on International Strategy.  He is a Past President of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) and was a member of its Executive Committee.  


Mr. Thomopulos has received numerous honors and awards including the University of Kansas School of Engineering's Distinguished Engineering Service Award, a 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Iowa, the Distinguished Engineering Service Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), and most recently, a 2011 Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Lifetime Achievement in Management Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
