District Energy Magazine: Consolidating Systems for a Greener Future

San Antonio, TEXAS – Stanley Consultants’ expert engineers Brad Pankow and Jesse Cabrera authored the article “Consolidating Systems for a Greener Future” in District Energy Magazine

The article discusses how Stanley Consultants provided a sustainable solution to Trinity University (San Antonio, Texas) that increased space for campus growth, upgraded utility distribution; and significantly reduced energy consumption and lowered costs.

Trinity University, a private liberal arts college in San Antonio needed to expand their campus.  The dilemma was that space on campus was limited and they did not have the utility infrastructure to support the demands of additional buildings.

Because of this, Stanley Consultants was hired to conduct a utility assessment and feasibility study to determine future campus utility needs and provide the college options for meeting the demands.  Throughout the project, Stanley Consultants also provided other professional engineering services for the design, bid assistance, and construction administration for utility projects.

As a result, the sustainable solution provided the university with space to build a new, 280,000-square-foot Center for Sciences and Innovation building; reduced three thermal energy plants into two interconnected plants; upgraded the utility distribution system; and significantly reduced energy consumption and costs.

Brad Pankow, P.E. is a principal mechanical engineer for Stanley Consultants, with expertise on educational and institutional steam, hot water and chilled-water generation and distribution systems.
