Provo’s Lakeview Parkway, also known as the Westside Connector, has been named a 2016 Most Outstanding Project by Utah Construction & Design magazine.  Known as Utah’s “voice of the architecture/engineering/construction industry,” the magazine annually honors the best commercial construction and design projects in the state.

Horrocks Engineers designed the new road with Stanley Consultants, a global consulting engineering firm, providing construction inspection services.  It was constructed by Sunroc Construction and Ames Construction.

The 3.7 mile connecting road opened in October 2016, providing a much needed direct route from I-15 to the city’s municipal airport.  Previously the only airport access was via a winding route through residential neighborhoods.  The connector also increases regional mobility to the growing neighborhoods in southwest Provo and opens the entire west side of the valley to further residential and commercial expansion.

Deemed as a project that would help boost the economy, the $39 million project was 1 of 14 infrastructure projects nationwide expedited for environmental review and permitting by the Obama administration in 2011.  The $39 million project was a partnership between the City of Provo and the Utah Department of Transportation.

It currently has five lanes from the I-15 interchange to the 500 West intersection, and two lanes from 500 West to the airport.  The project was designed to allow future expansion to widen it to five lanes the entire length.  It features a multi-use trail that runs the length of the roadway and connects with an existing city path.
